Glanrhyd Hospital, Bridgend
Glanrhyd Hospital is situated in Penyfai, on the outskirts of Bridgend. Glanrhyd Hospital provides a range of inpatient Mental Health facilities including EMI Assessment, Respite Care and long stay beds and Elderly Functionally Ill Unit, Continuing Care, Rehabilitation and Respite Care beds for Adult Services. In addition, the Cam Cyntaf (first steps) Day Centre provides a range of Day Care activities both at Glanrhyd and in a variety of settings within the community.
Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport
This District General Hospital, with more than 3,400 staff and approximately 774 beds, provides a comprehensive range of hospital services for inpatients, day cases and outpatients. The Health Board as a whole serves a population of more than 600,000 and many of the inpatient and specialist services at the Royal Gwent Hospital support the entire catchment area. Outpatient services are utilised primarily by those in Newport and the surrounding area.
In recent years a massive redevelopment programme has been undertaken to provide a new Cardiology Unit, Medical Day Case Unit, Medical Admissions Unit, Paediatric A&E, complete refurbishment of the outpatient facilities and a £5m Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology Unit. Work has now been completed on an expansion to the Main Delivery Unit, with two new obstetric operating theatres, high dependancy beds, extra delivery rooms and a six bed post operative support ward. A new trauma and orthopaedic unit has been opened at St Woolos Hospital (situated close to the Royal Gwent Hospital), this unit has a state of the art operating theatre suite with clean air flow systems throughout and voice activated surgical equipment.
St Cadoc’s Hospital, Caerleon, Newport
St Cadoc’s Hospital provides the following services: Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) provides assessment and therapeutic treatment services for children from infancy to 16 years old. The service is offered to emotionally disturbed and mentally ill children within Gwent along with their families. Their Adult Mental Health Services are provided by 3 Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs) for people between 16 and 64 years. Each team covers a specific geographical area. A variety of services are provided which include inpatient treatment, outpatient clinics, group work and day care etc. Their Elderly Mental Health Services provides assessment and treatment of organic illnesses, e.g. Alzheimer’s disease; functional illnesses, such as depression and schizophrenia; support care and respite care. These services are provided by 5 multi-disciplinary CMHTs to people aged 65 and over. Services also include inpatient treatment, outpatient clinics, domiciliary visits, group work and day care.
Gorseinon Hospital, Gorseinon
Gorseinon Hospital has a total of 66 beds, 44 of which provide assessment and rehabilitation for the elderly. The remaining 20 beds provide intermediate care including 6 designated for arthroplasty patients. The unit is supported by a multidisciplinary team.
