Northampton General Hospital – Northampton, Northamptonshire
Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust provides general acute services for a population of 380,000 and hyper-acute stroke, vascular and renal services to people living throughout whole of Northamptonshire, a population of 692,000. The Trust is also an accredited cancer centre and provides cancer services to a wider population of 880,000 who live in Northamptonshire and parts of Buckinghamshire. In addition to the main hospital site, which is located close to Northampton town centre, the Trust also provides outpatient and day surgery services at Danetre Hospital in Daventry. They also train a wide range of clinical staff, including doctors, nurses, therapists, scientists and other professionals.
Leicester General Hospital – Leicester
Leicester General Hospital is on the outskirts of Leicester in Evington. It is about three miles east of the city centre and offers a range of in-patient, day case and out-patient services. They are one of the biggest and busiest NHS Trusts in the country, serving the one million residents of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland – and increasingly specialist services over a much wider area. The hospital is a modern purpose designed and built facility which opened in May 1993. Most services are based at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital site but the Trust also runs a highly successful network of HIV and sexual health centres.
Colchester General Hospital – Colchester, Essex
Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust has two main sites: Colchester General Hospital and Essex County Hospital. The Trust provides healthcare services to around 370,000 people from Colchester and the surrounding area of north east Essex. Colchester General Hospital opened in 1984. There are 596 inpatient beds (general and anaesthetic), 44 maternity beds (including at Clacton and Harwich hospitals) and 12 critical care beds. (excluding cots and A&E.). James Paget Hospital – Gorleston, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk
The JPUH is a vibrant university hospital providing the best possible care to a population of 230,000 residents across Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and Waveney, as well as to the many visitors who come to this part of East Anglia. Their main site in Gorleston is supported by services at Lowestoft Hospital, the Newberry Clinic and other outreach clinics in the local area. The James Paget Hospital officially opened on 21 July 1982. They were established as a third wave NHS Trust in 1 April 1993 and became a Foundation Trust on 1st August 2006. Because of this, they are more able to develop services that meet the needs of their local community. This means local people and staff are directly involved in decisions about their hospitals, and influence the future. The Trust has 440 inpatient beds located on the James Paget University Hospital. Beds are a mix of critical, intensive and high dependency care, general surgery and medicine, maternity, paediatrics and neonatal.
The James Cook University Hospital – Middlesbrough
James Cook provides a wide range of district general hospital services and specialist services including neurosciences, renal medicine, spinal injuries, major trauma, cardiothoracic, vascular surgery and cancer services. The accident and emergency department is the designated major trauma centre for the southern half of the northern region and the hospital has a dedicated 24-hour acute admissions unit. James Cook has a modern, central operating suite containing 19 well-equipped theatres, with two recovery areas, which is next to an adult surgical day unit (containing a further three theatres) and the paediatric day unit. Their maternity staff deliver more than 4,400 babies a year in purpose-built delivery and low dependency suites. Fetal medicine and high dependency delivery referrals are accepted.
Maidstone General Hospital – Maidstone, Kent
Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is a large acute hospital trust. They provide a full range of general hospital services to around 500,000 people living in the south of west Kent and parts of north east Sussex. Many of the people they serve live in the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells area. In addition, the Trust provides specialist cancer services, through its flagship cancer centre at Maidstone and unit at Kent & Canterbury Hospital, for the whole of Kent, Hastings and Rother, about 1.8 million people.
